Black Paladin Lance

Black Paladin Lance is interesting because it merely accelerates his character development.

His selfless nature in a true blue crisis would become self-sacrificial as the Black Paladin.

His strategic mind would be put to amazingly good use. His light-hearted nature would be less self-centered and would instead come in handy as far as team morale is concerned. And he’d notice when people are acting oddly- and so, while he might not have the wisdom to do much or know what to say- the attempt at comfort and intrinsic vulnerability the act implies would actually draw everyone closer. Because with Lance, there wouldn’t be the seperation of hero-worship. They’d see him as an equal. And i’d like to think they’d grow to respect him while lightening the load and sort of sharing leadership- and eventually- lifting Lance up as the head of Voltron.

And, after some practice, he’d be the perfect speaker. All charisma and perfectly timed jokes. The casual wit and enthusiastic banter which is ideal in the gathering of diplomatic deals and the formation of allies.

It wouldn’t be a healthy Lance. At least not at first. It’d be too much for him. He’d break and bend and bruise and blister- but I think that’s exactly why it’s on my mind so much. Because this Lance is simultaneously everything I feel I am as well as everything I am not. 

The contradictory nature in and of itself is what, perhaps, holds the appeal.
